To celebrate the close of 2023 and as an offer of thanks to donors able to support Poetry Daily with a gift of $100 or more, we proudly present two specially commissioned, limited edition broadsides featuring Ilya Kaminsky’s new poem “A Walking Man,” numbered and hand-signed by the poet.
Each edition, produced on 11” x 17” acid-free paper, is illustrated and designed by visual artist Yana Belcher (Huseva) (who also designed our 2023 holiday banners) and honors Belcher and Kaminsky’s shared Ukrainian heritage.

In the Flower Edition, Belcher captures the aesthetic intersection of poetry, culture, and advocacy in an illustration inspired by the traditional Ukrainian ornamental style known as Petrykivka.
In the Embroidery Edition, the artist translates the poet’s title, “A Walking Man,” in the traditional, historically sacral Ukrainian embroidery alphabet, Brodivske.
Each supporter who makes a gift of $100 or more to Poetry Daily between December 11th and December 31st may choose to receive a unique, numbered and signed copy of either edition as our thanks.

POET AND ARTIST BIOS
Ilya Kaminsky was born in Odesa, Ukraine in 1977, and arrived to the United States in 1993, when his family was granted asylum by the American government. He is the author of Deaf Republic (Graywolf Press) and Dancing In Odessa (Tupelo Press) and co-editor and co-translated many other books, including Ecco Anthology of International Poetry (Harper Collins), In the Hour of War: Poems from Ukraine (Arrowsmith), and Dark Elderberry Branch: Poems of Marina Tsvetaeva (Alice James Books). His work was the finalist for The National Book Award and won The Los Angeles Times Book Award, The Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, The National Jewish Book Award, the Guggenheim Fellowship, The Whiting Award, the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Metcalf Award, Lannan Fellowship, Academy of American Poets’ Fellowship, NEA Fellowship, Poetry magazine’s Levinson Prize, and was also shortlisted for National Book Critics Circle Award, Neustadt International Literature Prize, and T.S. Eliot Prize (UK). Ilya Kaminsky has worked as a law clerk for San Francisco Legal Aid and the National Immigration Law Center. More recently, he worked pro-bono as the Court Appointed Special Advocate for Orphaned Children in Southern California. He currently teaches in Princeton and lives in New Jersey.
Yana Belcher (Huseva), who designed this season’s broadsides and holiday banners, graduated from Dnipro State College of Building and Construction Technologies and Architecture in Ukraine and continued her education at the Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture. In 2016, she came to America, where she obtained a degree in Graphic Design at George Mason University. Drawing from impressionists such as Van Gogh and Monet, symbolists like Vrubel, and her Ukrainian heritage, in her painting and design work she employs a range of media, from crayons to digital media to oil paints. She is the Lead Graphic Designer at a Fairfax-based consulting firm that serves non-profit organizations and small businesses and also works as a freelance designer and illustrator.
